Commercial Polymer Identification Card-4

Commercial Polymer Identification Card-4

PVC is one of the most produced commercial polymers today. The use of petroleum-based hydrocarbon (43%) is less compared to other commercial polymers due to the sodium chloride (57%) used in PVC production. Mechanical recycling of PVC is a common process, enabling the production of durable, long-lasting materials for many applications. However, similar to other commercial polymers, many additives are added during the production of PVC products to allow the final product properties. In cases where PVC wastes cannot be separated or there are different additives in the waste PVC structure, applying feedstock/chemical recycling (e.g. gasification, pyrolysis, dehydrachlorination) methods may be more efficient options.
