Commercial Polymer Identification Card-3

Commercial Polymer Identification Card-3

This week's commercial polymer is polypropylene (PP), one of the most used polymers in the industry. Due to its widespread use, PP is one of the polymers that cause the most accumulation in nature. Although it degrades in shorter times (approximately 30 years) compared to polymers such as Polystyrene (PS) and Polyethyleneterephthalate (PET), it is still not completely biodegradable. PP is considered fully recyclable, but its recyclability efficiency is still very low. Although it is less toxic compared to other commercial polymers, it is not sustainable due to its petrochemical basis and high energy consumption and low recyclability during production and recycling.
